Motorola Coming up with Android Phone Software

Posted by: Admin on: June 24, 2009

Motorola Inc.’s (MOT) flagging wireless business is likely to get a shot of adrenalin before the end of the year with the release of a new handset lineup based on Google Inc. (GOOG) software, according to one brokerage. Motorola shares are getting a boost from Bank of America/Merrill Lynch analyst Tai Liani, who this morning raised his rating on the stock to Buy from Neutral, setting a price target of $9, up from $7. The company is betting that it is. “People familiar with the matter” tell The Wall Street Journal that Verizon (VZ) and T-Mobile USA plan to offer Motorola handsets running the OS by the end of the year.

Both devices are said to feature a touchscreen and slide-out keyboard and a “social communications” focus. Which sounds somewhat compelling, though it would probably be more so if the market weren’t already enamored with Palm’s (PALM) Pre, Apple’s (AAPL) iPhone 3GS and its $99 brethren, the iPhone 3G. That said, I suppose there’s always a chance that Motorola (MOT), using Android, could turn out a handset that apes those devices and returns the company to the glory days of the RAZR or at least points it in the right direction. Free Best 6 Instant Messaging Tools for Blackberry

Posted by: Admin on: June 16, 2009

Seth Rosenblatt, CNET Download.com wrote on TechMSN that Even though it’s been around almost as long as the modern Web, instant messaging is still a great way to send short communication bursts without tying your ear to a telephone. But with great utility come buckets of options: Do you use Yahoo IM? AOL IM? MSN? Google Talk? ICQ? What do you do if your parents are on one service, but everybody at your office uses a second and your friends are all on a third?

Nobody wants to be logged in to half a dozen different chat programs simultaneously, which is where multiprotocol apps come in, to free up resources and streamline your experience by presenting a single interface for managing your contacts, regardless of their preferred networks.continue reading…

Nokia is Coming up with New Technology

Posted by: Admin on: June 11, 2009

Nokia are developing what they hope will be the future of mobile charging – Ambient Power. No, not a charger with a built-in windchime and tibetan prayer wheel (although that would be a big seller at Glastonbury, Nokia, if you are reading this) but rather a technique for using radio waves to remotely induce a charge into a battery. The Nokia Research Center has some people at work on creating nanoscale materials that can draw charge from any wifi, radio or similar radiation that is in their vicinity. Just leaving a phone laying around where there is significant radio traffic (eg near a wifi base station) could generate enough charge to ‘trickle’ into a phone’s battery. Continue reading »

Samsung’s Omnia II / GT-I8000 leaks early?

Posted by: Admin on: June 9, 2009

Oh look, something other than a Pre or iPhone… it’s Samsung’s GT-I8000, or Omnia II / Omnia 2 as it’s expected to be known by the time it launches. Spec-counters will want to listen in close ’cause the GT-I8000 comes packing a 3.7-inch WVGA (800 x 480 pixel) AMOLED display (presumably the same display just revealed by Samsung last week) with an 8.1 megapixel camera lit by dual-LEDs capable of recording VGA video at 30fps. The Lithuanian on-line retailer responsible for leaking the specs (which have now been removed) says we’ll see a 1500mAh battery powering HSDPA data with a custom “cubic” UI (looking very similar to the UI on the S8000 Jet) riding atop Windows Mobile. With a superior spec-sheet it has to be a superior phone right?

Pro MacBook

Posted by: Admin on: June 9, 2009

Not to be left out, the MacBook’s been updated too, and it’s no longer just a MacBook. Following in the wake of the 15-inch MacBook Pro updates, the 13-inchers will also be called MacBook Pros (because as Phil Schiller noted onstage, “At what point isn’t this just a MacBook Pro?”) The mid-range unibody aluminum laptops launched last October now have upgraded color screens, SD card slots, FireWire 800 ports, and backlit keyboards across the board. Prices start at $1,199, $100 less than before for the low-end aluminum MacBook, for an upgraded 2.26 GHz Core 2 Duo with 2 GB DDR3 RAM, GeForce 9400M graphics, and a 160 GB HDD. $1,499 gets you a 2.53 GHz Core 2 Duo, 4 GB of DDR3, and a 250 GB hard drive. RAM can now be expanded up to 8 GB, and hard drives can be upgraded up to 500 GB. Continue Reading…

Posted by: Admin on: June 8, 2009

As Opera continues to chip away at its competition and gain mobile market share, you can bet it’s not resting on any laurels. The software company has just released its 9.7 Beta version for Windows Mobile and promises to render pages faster and with better compression. The new version also includes Opera Widgets manager. Do note that this is still in beta and will have some issues:

Opera Turbo in Opera Mobile is still a preview-feature;

1. Downloads don’t work while Opera Turbo is enabled.
2. Some settings (such as toggle on/off images) do not apply when Opera Turbo is enabled.
